Fortress Investment Group's Principal Peter Briger

Fortress Investment Group is a New York City Based investment management firm. Peter Briger, Principal and co-chairman of Fortress Investment Group has been with the company since March of 2002. Briger has been noted for his exceptional business skills as well as his tireless philanthropic efforts.

Peter Briger was educated at Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania, earning his B.A. at the former, and his M.B.A. at the latter’s Wharton School of Business.

Before working at Fortress Investment Group, Briger was a member of Goldman, Sachs, & Co., where he became a partner in 1996.

In 2006, after just four years at Fortress Investment Group, Briger became a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Three years later, in 2009, he was elected co-chairman.

At Fortress Investment Group, Bridger has many responsibilities, including real estate and credit business. He has built a team of more than three hundred people and directs them in matters of credit investments and undervalued assets. Briger also heads several subdivisions and groups within Fortress Investment Group, including the Whole Loan Sales and Trading Business, the Japan Executive Committee, and the Fixed Income Principal Investment Group.

During Peter Briger’s time at Fortress Investment Group, the firm has received numerous awards and recognitions. Fortress Investment Group was named “Credit-Focused Fund of the Year” by Institutional Investor for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011. In 2011 Institutional Investor Named Fortress Investment Group as the Discretio9nary Macro-Focused Fund of the Year. HFMWeek named Fortress as the Management Firm of the Year in 2014.

Peter Briger is an active philanthropist. He serves on the Board of Directors of Caliber Schools, a group of charter schools that prepare students for higher education and careers. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Tipping Point. Tipping Point is an organization in San Francisco that assists low-income families.
